The Realm of Things Culinary. Anthropological Recipes
The text is a presentation of an anthropological project of research on
culinaries constructed in such a way to be accessible also to practitioners of other
disciplines of the humanities. The proposed range of topics was embedded in four
general discourses: the temporal discourse, the spatial discourse, the discourse
of identity and the discourse of cultural trends. These discourses may fulfill the
role of cultural categories (as interpreted by Gurevich),and thus be descriptive and
interpretative tools. Investigation of the cultural phenomenon of things culinary
does not pertain only to those them; it also reveals various “faces” of culture in
the era of fluid modernity
Divino Amore. An Outline of the History of Sanctuary and Anthropological Commentary
The article contributes to the review of small, peripheral, forgotten European sanctuaries. The subject of the presentation is the Sanctuary of Divino Amore in the Italian Castel di Leva located on the outskirts of Rome. Authors present its etiological legend, the source of the folk pilgrimage movement, the complex history and contemporary existence of this place, combining in their narrative the perspectives of a historian, ethnographer, theologian and a keen observer of acts of religiousness. In many church and pilgrim stories about the sanctuary the authors recognize in anthropological commentary topoi well known from the history of holy places, as well as new ones.Artykuł stanowi kontynuację rekonesansu po małych, peryferyjnych, zapomnianych sanktuariach europejskich. Przedmiotem prezentacji jest sanktuarium Divino Amore we włoskim Castel di Leva położonym na obrzeżach Rzymu. Autorzy przedstawiają jego legendę etiologiczną, źródło ludowego ruchu pielgrzymkowego, złożone dzieje oraz współczesną egzystencję tego miejsca, łącząc w swojej narracji perspektywę historyka, etnografa, teologa i wnikliwego obserwatora aktów religijności. W kościelnych i pielgrzymich opowieściach o sanktuarium autorzy w krótkim antropologicznym komentarzu rozpoznają zarówno toposy dobrze znane z historii miejsc świętych, jak i elementy nietypowe
Sacrum in Remote Places. Anthropologist’s Commentary
The article opens a series of publications on the existence of sacrum in remote places, small, peripheral, less known sanctuaries against the backdrop of religious landscapes. The first of the sanctuary series is Mętków, whose history is presented by Władysław Zarębczan. However, I add anthropological commentary to this story, using categories: religious culture, etiological legend, sanctuary, relics
Anthropological Supplement to Religious Culture of the Contemporary Podhale
The text is more like a supplement, complementary material to the research
on the Podhale religious culture. I also use another designation of the word ‘supplement’
– I treat my reflections as material updating the dynamically changing
content and form of Podhale religiousness. The subjects of analysis include new
shepherd celebrations, the Holy Communion of Holy Thursday, seasonal masses
at cemeteries, common gatherings before a funeral, wreaths for late maidens and bachelors, new rituals of Good Friday. These customs belong to the so-called
vernacular religion that puts emphasis on relations between religion and life,
practice, experience and also on the local, cultural context of tradition
Naturalistic Maps, Melancholic Maps. From the Cycle: Intermissions of Podhale
The article is a part of a book about contemporary culture of Podhale. In
the book there are three moments which act as “stops” of the main narration;
they concern the cultural phenomenon of the roads or ways. This “stop” is
a reflection (of anthropologist pacing the roads of Podhale) on stereotypes of
rural landscape and mental landscape, not the real one.Artykuł jest fragmentem powstającej książki pod roboczym tytułem Sylwy podhalańskie.
Sylwa to forma piśmiennictwa popularna w okresie staropolskim, wywodząca się ze zbioru
Silvae Stacjusza, obejmująca niejednorodne formalnie i treściowo teksty pochodzące
od jednego bądź różnych autorów, także anonimowych. To zbiór stanowiący pewną uporządkowaną
całość, otwartą jednak na kontynuacje, przekształcenia i uzupełnienia. Za odnowiciela
sylwicznej formy wypowiedzi uznaje się Czesława Miłosza, orędownika
tzw. sylw współczesnych, gdzie obok autorskich wierszy zamieścił utwory innych poetów,
epigramy, fragmenty listów, cytaty z innych dzieł. Kategorię sylwy i sylwiczność
uznano za użyteczne do opisu zjawisk współczesnych (autorem pojęcia sylwa współczesna
jest Ryszard Nycz). W obrębie sylw współczesnych łączy się różnego rodzaju gatunki
wypowiedzi: dokumentalne, autobiograficzne, cytaty z rzeczywistości, kopiowanie z innych
tekstów, zakłada się akcentowanie procesualnego sposobu istnienia podmiotu w tekście
i samego tekstu, akcentując jego formę „otwartą”. Wszyscy współcześni badacze
sylw zwracają uwagę, że w sylwie zapis rzeczywistości podporządkowany zostaje jednej
idei – „potrzebie pamięci”. W mojej książkowej opowieści o współczesnym Podhalu intermedia
pełnią rolę przerywników, swoistych „zatrzymań” właściwej narracji; ich osią
konstrukcyjną jest kulturowy fenomen drogi. Intermedium, które tu prezentuję, jest
pierwszą z trzech prób namysłu antropologa przemierzającego podhalańskie gościńce
